"We shall never have more time. We have, and always had, all the time there is. No object is served in waiting until next week or even until tomorrow."
--Arnold Bennett
Write about your Thanksgiving break like a movie review. What were the good parts and the bad parts? How many stars would you give it?
When it comes to Thanksgiving breaks, you know what you're getting: poultry, chilly weather, overeating, and family. But while expectations can be predictable, they can also be comforting and instead of boring they quietly become tradition.
There was good food, but what was surprising was the amount and variety! I enjoyed pad thai and wonton soup at Basil, pork tenderloin at our house, Thanksgiving dinner (which even included my mom's special three-part rolls), crabcakes at Fleet Landing, lots of leftovers, and I'm sure I'm leaving out a lot more.
After writing that, I need to go running. Big time.
There were changes, though, which kept the pace moving along. We celebrated in Charleston this year, which was a first for me. Matthew's been down here over Thanksgiving before, but for soccer, not for eating. I mean, I'm sure he ate, but...
The Ables family travelled down to Isle of Palms to visit us and also just take break from the routine. The condo was awesome and very comfortable. And having everyone together hasn't happened since some of us were in wedding garb. So that was great, and I especially enjoyed giving them a tour of my new city, even though Saturday was overcast and really chilly. We ate some she-crab soup and enjoyed several cups of good coffee (of course)
So all in all, it was a four-star weekend: good food, good company, and good traditions.
