Think back over your week. When did you feel: close to God, far from God?

I want to be a great teacher. I love teaching: the students, the subject, the preparation, the day in and day out dedication...it's all so stimulating and ever-changing. So I enjoy it, but I think it takes years to be really great.

But that's what I want.
And I think one of the best skills great teachers possess is humor. And let me tell you, teaching is really really funny. If the students don't say something hilarious (whether they mean to or not), do something ridiculous...or if I do or say something dumb...I want to be able to laugh. And I'm working on that. See, being a teacher is a strange balancing act. You have to be a role model, a disciplinarian, a guide, a discoverer, and a friend. It's a lot, and often is stressful. It can be difficult to remember how to smile. Especially as most teachers have to perfect The Look.

The Look resembles this:

No emotion, no expression. Nothing. The Look is used mainly to correct student behavior. Or, around my friends, it's used to make them laugh. So it scares my students and makes everyone else crack up. But on days when I have to use The Look a lot, I'm afraid it may become permanent.
Which would not be a good thing.
So I'm reminding myself to smile more, because I'm very happy where I am, and so thankful for my awesome students. I really do look forward to seeing them all each day. So I need to show it more.
And laugh whenever possible.
